Lt. Colonel Michael R. Morgan signed M.R. Morgan beneath portrait, no back mark, brevetted brigadier general in April 1865, and the highly decorated Lt. Colonel John Allen Campbell by Brady signed on verso, Mrs. General Ruger/Compliments of/J.A. Campbell, brevetted brigadier March 1865.

Morgan (1833-1911) was USMA Class of 1854 with prior service in the 11th US Infantry. He transferred to the Commissary Department in August 1861 and subsequently earned four wartime brevets for his Herculean efforts in supplying the Army of the Potomac. Morgan remained in the post-war army and was appointed full Brigadier & Commissary General in October 1894, retiring in January 1897.

After early service as a private in the 19th OVI, John Campbell vaulted through the ranks ending the war with two gallant and meritorious brevets to colonel and brigadier. Campbell became a staff officer in November 1862 and was serving under Schofield during the epic battle of Franklin. He resigned from the regular army in April 1869 but not before accruing four more "gallantry" brevets in 1867 for Shiloh, Stones’ River, Resaca, and Franklin - a nearly perfect template of western service.

Descended directly in the family of General Thomas H. Ruger

Condition: Both cartes G+ with minor wear and soiling.
