Two Antique Derringers A) Hopkins & Allen XL Derringer
Manufactured circa 1870s with a total quantity estimated at 2000. Top barrel flat marked "XL DERRINGER" and "PAT. APR. 5, 1870" on the upper left flat. Although the derringer does not bear Hopkins and Allen markings, it does appear in their advertising literature. The patent date is for the Marlin Ejector used on the derringer and for which a royalty was likely paid to Marlin. Iron frame and fitted with bird head grips. Nickel finished and casehardened hammer and trigger.

Condition: Very good. Overall the deringer has a smooth brown-gray patina with a heavy concentration of original nickel finish on the breech end of the barrel. There is some scattered minor pitting. The grips are slightly undersized at the frame, otherwise the grips are very good with high point wear. Action does not function.

B) Marlin First Model Deringer
Manufactured from 1863 to 1867. Two line New Haven barrel address on a barrel correctly manufactured without sights. Fitted with smooth bird head grips.

Condition: Very good. The barrel has a smooth dark patina, with the frame having a mixed aged brass patina. The grips are fair with cracked panels and some minor handling marks.
