Two American coin silver spoons, tapered handles with engraved borders, baroque scrolled cartouche tips, engraved crest with leaping dolphin, maker's mark on back of each lower stem, mark for Revere (Paul Revere II, Boston, 1735-1818), 5-1/4 in. Light scratches and dents in bowls. Provenance: These spoons were consigned by a descendant of William Ellery and have descended through the family. William Ellery (1727-1820) was born in Newport, Rhode Island, and in 1776 signed the Declaration of Independence. He served as a member of Congress until 1785. Lot accompanied by copy of appraisal by Gebelein Silversmiths, Boston, dated 1973.
