A) Heavy barrel equipped with a globe front and adjustable rear sights and marked "J.H. JOHNSTON GREAT WESTERN/GUN WORKS PITTSBURGH, PA" at the breech end. Solid under rib with ram rod secured by three pipes. Target peep sight base mounted directly behind the barrel tang. Double set triggers and mounted with a straight grip half stock with a silver grip extended trigger guard, left side plate, escutcheons, patch box and buttplate.

Condition: Good. The barrel has a smooth mottled silver gray patina and the lock and hammer have a smooth gray patina. The silver has been polished some time ago and presently has a dull frosted appearance. The stock is excellent with sharp flat edges and a few minor dings and handling marks. The barrel marking is crisp and clear. The action is fine.
- B) The top barrel flat is marked "N. LEWIS MAKER TROY N.Y". The muzzle has been milled for a bullet starter, solid under rib, dovetailed blade front and adjustable rear sight (adjuster absent) and tang mounted folding peep sight. The barrel gauges at 44 caliber. Adjustable double set triggers and mounted on walnut straight grip half stock with a pewter forend cap, silver double finger spur trigger guard, patch box, buttplate and cheek piece.

Condition: Good. The metal surfaces show signs of having been cleaned and have a mottled semi bright appearance. The silver was cleaned some time ago and is beginning to age. The stock has been lightly cleaned and remains very good with a small hole directly below the lock. The set trigger does not function, otherwise the action is fine.
