Two post-Civil War letters from James Kable. Accompanied by one cover. Dated 1 October 1865, first letter reads in part: ''…it has been so hot and sickly we could not get hand to work but they are going it many we are just putting up the Kitchen. Corn is good in this part of the country, wheat is light. Hogs is scarce sel at 7 to 12 cts. Cattle is the same as hogs I sold 12 head for $360…'' Second letter, dated 19 September 1865, reads in part: ''…it is better than it has been, all though I sickly enough to get nothing more than the chills. I had apel for aweek & that was enough for me, I am sitting stout again, any how hard at work…George Bond has put op a mill at Oak Station three run of bars, cost $16,000 in cash…'' Ink letters measure 5'' x 7'' and run 1.5pp. and 2pp. Toning and soiling, otherwise excellent condition. James Robley Residence Sardinia IN; Enlisted on 8/30/1862 as a Private. On 8/30/1862 he mustered into ''B'' Co. IN 82nd Infantry He was transferred out on 8/4/1864 (Transferred to Engineer Corps)
