Tuscarora,NV - Elko County - c1878-9 - Henry F. Schuldt Pharmacist Bottle :
Pharmacist Henry Francis Schuldt is an unwilling victim of history as his origin remains a mystery since his brief stay in Nevada eluded census takers. Schuldt, recognizing a good business opportunity, opened a drug store in the Elko County mining camp of Tuscarora when the town boomed from local mining in 1878. His embossed bottles carry the location of his store. Schuldt may have left Tuscarora just after 1880. At one point, he moved to the California gold mining community of Nevada City. When he moved, he took his unused embossed Tuscarora drug bottles with him. A number of his embossed Tuscarora bottles have been found there by bottle diggers. None are known in sizes over eight ounces.

The Schuldt Bottles

There are two embossed patterns of the Schuldt bottle. The one-ounce size has no monogram. There are only two or three of these known. The others have his initials as a monogram at the left side of the front panel, typical of late 1870s drug bottles. Today, there are perhaps 20-25 known of the monogrammed variant. None of the Schuldt bottles dug from Nevada City are known in sizes over eight ounces. Schuldt also had one embossed Nevada City drug store bottle. It is extremely rare, with only one or two known.
