<td width="100%">
Peddler Shoe Cobbler by the Turner Sisters. The late Turner Sisters came from the Cape Cod region and wrote 4 books on Peddler Dolls. They handmade peddler dolls themselves. They were members of the Doll Study Club of Boston. Marie Celeste Turner and Grace Biscoe Turner collected original fabrics from families of Peddlers that was handed down from generation to generation and were happy to include any fabric wear to achieve the "used" look in their dolls. Their dolls were on loan to the Yesteryears Doll Museum whose records state that Grace and Marie began making the peddler dolls years before the museum opened. All of the dolls remained in the Tuners'possession until a few months before the last surviving sister passed away at almost 100 (about 1986). Their books were written between 1962 and 1973, long after the dolls were created. They copied with as much accuracy as possible the old costumes found in paintings and prints of those early centuries. There is only one of each peddler doll. They are really superb folk art. This cobbler has a carved wood face and hands are made of some type of composite. He is really an unusual character. He is from a smoke free environment. Buyer to pay $15 for shipping, insurance and handling. Thanks for viewing.
