Turkish Kiliji Sword with Scabbard

Attributed as 17th Century Tatar construction, the blade of this sword shows evidence of differential heat treatment, a feature more commonly associated with the edged weapons of Japan, with a well defined temper line on the leading edge. 36 inches overall with a curved 31 inch blade, with "S" pattern engraving on the lower third, and a silver inlaid symbol on the right side. Brass guard with short languets and square tipped quillions, a rayskin grip and a forward-canted pommel with brass cap. With a brown leather covered scabbard, showing lightly engraved brass fittings.

Fine. The blade shows scattered light pitting, with a few opening metal seams and mild chipping of the edge. The temper line is most clearly visible in the central third of the blade. The brass components show an aged patina, with a few cracks and lost sections of the rayskin and mild wear on the scabbard.
