Tucker & Sherrard, low hammer spur Confederate Dragoon made in Texas, serial number 56 featured in article entitled “Ogden, Utah, or Lancaster, Texas” by Bill Gary. In this well written and researched article Mr. Gary concludes “that thisand the other low hammer spur Dragoons were made by Tucker and Sherrard of Lancaster, Texas during the Civil War”. Pictured on page 89 and 90 in “Confederate Revolvers” by Bill Gary where he states that the only known existing examples ofthis revolver are numbers 52,54 and 56 making it among the rarest of all percussion American revolvers. This Dragoon remains in original as found condition showing a brown patina finish with some scattered light to moderate erosion andpinprick pitting but generally very good overall. The grips show some losses at the toes, wear at the edges and minor imperfections with normal aging. The action works well and the interior is surprisingly good. I would describe this important Tucker & Sherrard as a museum quality Texas antiquity suitable for the most prestigious collection. The collection of William A. Gary consigned by his estate.
