Title is Sun Mask. 21" diameter, 7 1/2" deep. Provenance: The Squash Blossom Gallery, Vail Colorado. Chief Tsungani, aka Fearon 'Smitty' Smith Jr. a rebellious spirit turned master artist. In 1977, his family founded the Lelooska Foundation in the Valley of the Mists (Ariel, WA), creating a space for Native art, performance and education that’s still thriving today. Tsungani was renowned for his stunning ceremonial masks, rattles and bentwood boxes, earning the respect of his community as an expert at handling large articulated masks a skill much admired by the Old people.
