Tryon Contract U.S. Model 1841  Mississippi  Percussion Rifle with Saber Bayonet
This is an example of a Model 1841 rifle manufactured by George W. Tryon, Philadelphia, 1846-1848 that has been period converted to accept a saber bayonet which is included with this rifle. The lock plate is marked "TRYON / US" in front of the hammer and "PHILADA / PA / 1844". Fixed sights on a barrel marked "US / JH / P" on the left side at the breech. Steel ramrod of trumpet head type, with brass tip. Brass mountings with "US" marked on the buttplate tang. Stock has the correct brass patch box and is marked with the number "28" ahead of the trigger (there are no other visible markings). Complete with an unmarked saber bayonet with scabbard.

Condition: About good. The barrel has a smooth gray patina with even minor pitting. The lock and hammer have a mottled brown patina. The brass components are fine. The stock is fair with some minor dings and scratches with a couple small minor cracks near the ramrod channel and a hairline crack behind the bolster. The bayonet is fair with even minor pitting on the cleaned blade. The leather scabbard has some minor handling marks and age cracking.
