Truman Military Archive
"WINNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED AFTER THE AUCTION ENDS BY THE AUCTIONEER ONCE ALL BIDS HAVE BEEN PROCESSED TO DETERMINE THE WINNER FOR EACH LOT."
Very rare archive of items belonging to Harry Truman while he was a Major in the U.S. Field Artillery Reserves, circa 1924. Archive includes two lengthy autograph notes by Truman, the first reading in part, ''2nd Inf. on its right by flanking action to SE. 2nd Inf. will make the…attack. It will not secure Moritz school house and will…run school house and hill 573 and will assist the 1st Inf…in captime of hill 571, and secure crossings. 1st Ba 1st F.A. from position in area mean Henderson making House will support 1st Inf. 2nd…from position…will support the attack of second. 2rd Ba. 1st. Inf. Will…Brigade Reserve and will assist aides in present position. H. Train will remain in present position 5 axis of signal…'' On the second note, appearing on the verso of a typed ''Special Situation'' sheet, Truman wrote, ''Red advance guard hold ridge from stand to road. The leading element of infantry…continues to march mostly of RD Inf. 606. Cut in position on…506 and…Rest of Red Inf. deploying toward their left flank. This brigade attacks at 1:30 p.m. enveloping the enemy left…line of departure present front line of 1st Inf…'' Other items include a copy of a lecture entitled ''A Cavalry Regiment in the Attack,'' upon which Truman wrote, ''I wonder what 6:30 PM means to some of these fellows?'' On the side of this document Truman signs his name ''Harry S. Truman'' and writes his Independence, Missouri address underneath. Final items include a 2pp. (on separate sheets) report on artillery trajectory, where, upon each sheet Truman signs ''Harry S. Truman / Major F.A. Res.'' Documents measure approximately 8.5'' x 11''. Worn as expected, though in good and entirely legible condition. A truly exceptional lot of the military career of a war-time American President.
