<Our item number 105050><B>Truman, Harry S.</B> World War II Victory Proclamation Broadside Signed as President &#40;Washington, Christmas 1945&#41;, in brown ink. Very fine; a few contemporary ink spots under &#34;Harry&#34;; the red, white, and blue ribbon at lower right is intact. This broadside was presented to Ruth Hyacinth Gibbons, a member of Truman&#39;s correspondence staff from 1945-53. The Christmas card that accompanied the gift from The President and Mrs. Truman is present in the lower left corner of the frame. Simply framed to an overall size of 23½x16½&#34;.<BR><BR>The proclamation is 21½x14½&#34;, printed on heavy-stock presentation paper, and dated in print, May 8, 1945, the date the unconditional surrender of Germany to the Allies was ratified in Berlin. Across the top of the page, in blue lettering, is &#34;<I>By The President Of The United States Of America</I>.&#34; The initial &#34;T&#34; in the first paragraph is gold; each paragraph thereafter begins with wi th either a red or blue letter, two paragraphs having three initial words in red. The proclamation begins: &#34;<I>The Allied Armied, through sacrifice and devotion and with God&#39;s Help, have wrung from Germany a final and unconditional surrender</I>.&#34; While celebrating the victory in the West, Truman acknowledges, &#34;<I>The victory won in the West must now be won in the East. The whole world must be cleansed of the evil from which half the world has been freed</I>….&#34; The President appoints Sunday, May 13, 1945, as a day of prayer.<BR><BR>A proclamation inscribed by President Truman to White House Executive Clerk Maurice C.
