ALS, two pages on two adjoining sheets, 5.25 x 8.25, February 20, 1963. Letter to Miss Lieppert. In part, "I am writing at the suggestion of [screenwriter and librettist] Mr. Arthur Laurents…to help me find a beach house (in Quogue) to rent this summer. The house must be by the water, have a garage, at least two bedrooms, a living-room with a fireplace and a good kitchen…I do not want to pay in excess of $2,500." And a hardcover edition of In Cold Blood, signed and inscribed on the half-title page, “For Kay Graff, with all good wishes, Truman Capote.” Autographic condition: fine, with a few light creases to letter. Book condition: VG+/VG. Red cloth-covered boards; light wear to corners and spine-ends; textblock edges slightly yellowed and soiled; previous owner’s bookplate to front pastedown and signature to ffep. Dust jacket in protective mylar sleeve; small chips/tears and creases to edges, mostly at corners and spine-ends; rubbing along folds; sunned/yellowed (especially along spine); soiling and a ring of staining from a cup placed on front cover. Quogue is a beachfront community on the south shore of Long Island. At the time of the present letter, Capote had begun work on the book, considered his masterpiece.
