Triplett & Scott Repeating Carbine
This is an example of a Triplet & Scott Repeating carbine that was manufactured by the Meriden Manufacturing Company of Meriden, Connecticut as part of an order for 5000 carbines by the state of Kentucky. The carbine has a blue barrel, sights and magazine tube socket, casehardened receiver, trigger guard and buttplate and walnut stock and forearm. The left side of the breech is marked "KENTUCKY" is small letters. A small "N/W.B." inspection marks is stamped on the left side of the stock near the buttplate. The left side of the frame is roll-stamped: "MERIDEN MAN'FG.CO/MERIDEN, CONN." in two lines. The receiver tang is stamped: "TRIPLETT & SCOTT/PATENT DEC.6, 1864" in two lines. The serial number "3577" is stamped in two lines on the left side of the buttplate. The Triplett & Scott Carbine featured an unique swivel barrel/breech with seven-shot tubular magazine in the butt. Although the carbine was designed and manufactured during the Civil War, the 5000 carbine order for Kentucky arrived too late to see service.

Good. The blued and casehardened components have a smooth brown and brown-gray patina with traces of the original finish. There are three partially repaired, long hair-line cracks in the stock wrist above the magazine tube and the stock and forearm show moderate handling wear. The barrel and serial number markings are clear. The action appears to function well. This is a good representative example of a Civil War era carbine.
