lot of 16 silver gelatin photographs taken by DeLancey Gill; consisting of various delegation portraits spanning the years 1898-1901; displayed as two sets of eight 7.5" x 5.5" photographs matted in wooden frames with Bureau of American Ethnology 1900 painted on lower edge of frame, frame size 24.5" x 33".

De Lancey W. Gill (1859-1940) was the last of the photographers working to document Indians for the Smithsonian's Bureau of American Ethnology. By the end of his career, Gill had taken between 2,000 and 3,000 portraits. 

Condition: Portraits include: Wogewashonewahe (Robert McGlashen); Nawat (Left Hand); Mon-chu-hin-xte (Hairy Bear); Chief Charkshepshutsker (Red Eagle); Chief Paul Showeway; Chief Joseph; Meshekigishiq (Sky Striking Earth); Lakuhoohegar (South Wind); Joseph Springer (interpreter); Ahblocoenazin (Standing in the Prairie); Ouray; Wa-Shin-Ha (Fat on Skin); Governor Mariano Carpintero (in image holding Lincoln's cane); William Terrill Bradby; and two unidentified leaders.

Images not removed from frame, light toning, some loss of emulsion on photographs; glass on one frame cracked in corner.
