<B>Secretary of the Treasury Albert Gallatin Letter Signed,</B></I> one page, 8" x 10", D.C., October 22, 1801, to William Whann. This letter quotes a certificate deposited on behalf of dividends payable to the Bank of the United States via its agent, Tristram Dalton. Swiss immigrant Albert Gallatin (1761 - 1849) entered American politics shortly after the Revolutionary War and was soon representing Pennsylvania in the United States Senate. In 1801 he was appointed secretary of the treasury and served in that capacity until 1812. Light fading, else fine condition. <I>From the collection of Henry E.
