Unauthorized "Apocrypha" edition. xii, 13 -300 pp. Octavo (7.25” x 4.25”). With five engraved portraits of Indian leaders, including a frontispiece portrait of a Sioux Queen, lacking the folding map. Nineteenth-century binding of cloth back over buff paper boards, with a leather spine lettering label. Binding worn and shaken, with front board detached and with evidence of earlier crude repairs. Leather label heavily rubbed and scraped. Sheets and plates heavily browned and foxed, with occasional staining. Miscellaneous edge tears, with some text loss to M3 (about eight words on each side from section on examples of Indian Language). Previous owner's ink signature on front pastedown endpaper.
