TWO GIRLS AT RIVERSIDE JAPAN, a hand-coloured albumen print with pencil annotation on verso as follows, "A Japanese riverside scene, illustrating the dress and general appearance of the Japanese women. Note the elaborate hair-dressing which is done at intervals of a week or fortnight. In order not to disarrange these coiffures, the women use wooden pillows under the neck at night." Matted and framed.
