Transitional Saltillo Serape,
circa 1800-1820. Ultra-fine textile woven in two vertical panels in red, burgundy red, rose, ivory, green, blue, pale orange, purplish brown, and yellow with a nested diamond center surrounded by hundreds of smaller diamonds in vertical rows with a 2.75" quadruple border at each end consisting of a single wavy line followed by a field of stepped diamonds followed by another wavy line, textile ending in solid red band; 46.25" x 90.5". Western Reserve accession records this textile was donated by Mrs. John Kinner, and that her husband's grandfather purchased it in Mexico in 1853. Deaccessioned from the Western Reserve Historical Society of Cleveland, Ohio. Several small holes and large tears especially at ends and one side, colors excellent.
