<B>Transcript of Robert E. Lee's Confirmation as "General in Chief" - Initialed by Jefferson Davis.</B></I> This historic document is the transcription of the confirmation of the appointment of Robert E. Lee as General in Chief of the Confederate Armies of the Confederate States of America. Received January 31, 1865 the letter is in black ink on 8" x 11.25" lined paper and is in excellent condition. It is endorsed by the initials of Confederate President Jefferson Davis "<I>J. D.</B></I>" in pencil on verso and is docketed by Davis' personal secretary Burton J. Harrison with his initials "<I>B. J. H.</B></I>" on verso as well. <BR><BR>The letter reads in part: "<I>The Senate proceeded to consider the nomination of Robert E. Lee to be General in Chief of the Armies of the Confederate States of America...the Senate do advise and consent to his appointment agreeable to the nomination of the President.</B></I>" It is signed by the Secretary of the Senate James H. Nash.
