Trade axe with shaft made from table leg with brass tacks, circa mid to late 19th century, type carried by American Indians. The axe measures 6” from edge to back, the blade is marked with a maker’s mark that appears to be a tomahawk and possibly a tree. The head shows dark patina with some rust and erosion. The hard-wood shaft has been flattened on one side, showing aging and seven old brass tacks. The head is loose on the shaft. Theshaft shows aging. The tomahawk is approx. 24-1/2”, the shaft 23-1/2” and has the look of the western plains. The two pieces seem to have been together a long while. Est: $600 - $1,200
