This is a drypoint of Yvette Gilbert by Toulouse Lautrec, a French painter, printmaker, caricaturist, and illustrator who immersed himself in the colorful and theatrical life of Paris in the late 19th century. The drypoint is a limited edition of 22 and marked “28324 Lautrec 18/22 Yvette Guilbert” on the verso. Gilbert (1865 - 1944) was a French cabaret singer and actress, a headliner at the Moulin Rouge in the 1890’s, and a favorite subject of Toulouse Lautrec. She was noted for her black gloves,
and Lautrec made many portraits of her and devoted his second album of sketches to her. The mat measures 24 x 20 in. wide, the interior measures 15 x 11 in. wide, and the image size is 12 1/16 x 7 1/16 in. wide.
