Toronto, ON- The Farmers Bank of Canada $5 Sept. 1, 1908 Ch. # 270-10-04
This item is one of the great rarities in the Canadian chartered bank series. It comes from a very short lived institution which opened in 1906 and failed in 1910 due to dishonest and incompetent management. The 1907-1908 notes were the bank's only issue, and the $5 denomination is the only one with examples in private hands, as all of the other denominations issued are either unknown or in institutional collections only. According to the Charlton catalogue, only five examples of this note are known to survive, and that figure includes specimens in institutional holdings as well. This piece is the Charlton plate example, and represents one of the true treasures of Tom Flynn's Canadian holdings. Fine.
From The Thomas M.
