Vintage pair of Benlee boxing gloves personally-owned and -worn by former World Welterweight Champion boxer Tony DeMarco, who signs both in black felt tip. The gloves are accompanied by four other items signed by DeMarco: a custom-made metallic plaque, featuring an embossed image of DeMarco (a sister version of this plaque is purported to be displayed in the Sports Museum at Boston’s TD Garden); a first edition copy of Nardo: Memoirs of a Boxing Champion; and an invitation and program for ‘Honor the Champ,’ an event celebrating DeMarco at Lombardo’s in Randolph on January 14, 1998, with the program also signed on the inside by DeMarco, and the front and back covers signed by other notable Boston and New England notables like Rico Petrocelli, Vinny Paz, Johnny Pesky, Frank Malzone, Larry Eisenhauer, and Ray Flynn. The consignor notes that on page 103 of the Nardo book, DeMarco is pictured wearing the offered gloves during a bout against Gaspar Ortega at Madison Square Garden on December 21, 1956. In overall very good condition, with scuffing from use and fragility from age to gloves.
