On 1 November 1905, the Tonopah Railroad and the Goldfield Railroad merged to become the Tonopah and Goldfield Railroad, which operated until 1947 [Ref: www.goldfieldhistoricalsociety.com]. The Armspear Manufacturing Company, originally the Railroad Signal Lamp and Lantern Company (1880s), was so named sometime in the 1890s when “the company began marketing a line of lanterns and other high-quality lighting devices under the name "Armspear". In 1902, a reorganization led to the corporate name Armspear Manufacturing Company” [Ref: www.railroadiana.org]. The top of this tall-globe lantern is engraved “Armspear Man’f.g Co. New York/ Made Under Patents June 8 & 29 and Nov 30-86./ Pat’d Mch. 19. Sept. 24. Oct. 22. 89”. The lower portion of the lid is hand embossed T&G R.R.” and matches the “T. & G. R.R.” etching on the globe. The upper rim of the 5 3/8” standard red tall globe is deeply chipped in one place, and the lower rim is lightly chipped in four places. The globe is trapped within the steel-slat frame. The screw-in burner and pot are marked “Adlake Chicago” on the wick screw and is unmarked on the base. - Jacobitz Collection -59892
