Eagle Lock Company was established in 1833, incorporated in 1854, and closed in 1954. At one time, Eagle was the largest trunk and cabinet lock maker in the world. Tonopah & Goldfield Railroad Company operated 1906-1947. This lock likely dates to the late 1880s and later. Brass riveted padlock. Spring loaded key drop unmarked. “Straight” style keyhole indicates that this lock was used to secure train cars. The front shackle is marked “Eagle Lock Co. Terryville. Conn. U.S.A.” The shackle rear is marked “T&G RR Co.” and the G is upside down. Damage on the front rivets seems to indicate that the lock was once opened, perhaps to be cracked, repaired, or rekeyed. However, it should be noted that these locks were rarely repaired or rekeyed, as they were inexpensive to acquire. Also, Eagle rarely made RR keys; Bohannon usually produced the locks for the T&G Railroad. - Jacobitz Collection -59569
