Featured in this lot is this Tombstone Consolidated Gold & Silver Mining Company mining stock certificate issued in 1881. The Tombstone Consolidated Gold & Silver Mining Company was a significant player in the boomtown of Tombstone, Arizona, during the late 1800s. The company emerged during a period of rapid growth in the Tombstone mining district, which was one of the most productive silver districts in Arizona. In 1901, the Grand Central Company, the Tombstone Mill and Mining Company and the Contention Company were joined to form the Tombstone Consolidated Gold & Silver Mining Company. This stock certificate was issued to J. M. Buffington on July 25th, 1881 for 500 shares of stock at 25 dollars per share. It is numbered 187 and has been stamped with stars over the signatures of the secretary and the president of the company at the time. It shows good condition overall with slight wear present from its age and use over the years, but no major signs of damage is noted. It measures 4 1/8" L x 9 5/8" W.
