Tomars of Gwalior, billon fractional tanka of Man Singh Tomar (1486-1516 AD), 3.47g. Obv: crude Arabic legend copying Lodhi issues of Delhi. Rev: Nagari legend Mana Samhi (error for Simha) in a rectangle; pseudo-Arabic marginal inscriptions. Two punch on edge,

Very fine, Extremely rare.

Man Singh was the last Tomar ruler of Gwalior, known for his patronage of music and architecture. He had a protracted rivalry with Sikandar Lodhi of Delhi which ended by their respective deaths in 1516 and 1517. The Tomars issued coins resembling Lodhi issues but mostly with crude Arabic pseud-inscriptions. Only very rare coins are known with Nagari legends, that were issued by Vikramaditya and Man Singh.
