Cartoonist Tom Wilson signs a first day cover, postmarked in Denver on 9 May 1987, commemorating the release of the twenty-two cent American flag and fireworks stamp. Wilson, creator of the ''Ziggy'' comic strip, sketches Ziggy waving an American flag. He signs ''Ziggy by Tom Wilson'' below the sketch. In 1987, Wilson's son, Tom Wilson II, took over the comic strip, which debuted in 1971. The 6.5'' x 3.5'' cover is in fine condition.
