American actor (1903-1954) best known for his leading roles in low-budget Western films in the silent and sound eras, and for his portrayal of superhero Captain Marvel in the 1941 serial film The Adventures of Captain Marvel. Tyler also played Kharis in 1940's The Mummy's Hand, a popular Universal Studios monster film. DS in pencil, one page, 8.5 x 5.5, November 17, 1939. A Samuel Goldwyn ‘day player’ confirmation of employment document, which states that Tom Tyler will play the part of ‘King Evans’ in the production ‘Vinegaroon’ for a weekly rate of $500. Signed at the conclusion by Tyler. In fine condition.

The title of Vinegaroon was later changed to The Westerner, which became a 1940 Western film directed by William Wyler and that starred Gary Cooper, Walter Brennan, and Doris Davenport. The film is remembered for Brennan's performance as Judge Roy Bean, for which he won his record-setting third Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
