Tom Lea "The King Ranch" The Saddle Blanket Edition (The King Ranch, 1957). The legendary King Ranch was founded in 1853 by Captain Richard King, whose original 15,500-acre purchase is now a sprawling 825,000 acres in South Texas, a larger area than the state of Rhode Island. Through the years the King Ranch has founded two major American beef breeds, has bred some of the all-time great race horses, and has been a source of technology that has significantly benefited livestock and wildlife management.

Today it remains one of the largest working ranches in the country and has diversified into a major agribusiness corporation, involved in farming, citrus groves, commodity marketing and processing, and recreational hunting. Retail operations include luggage, leather goods, farm equipment, commercial printing, and tourism.

This beautiful two volume set provides a timeline of the first one hundred years of the ranch, but sets the stage with a historical accounting of the founder beginning in 1827. It's a fascinating story of one of Texas' most cherished institutions. The special Saddle Blanket Edition was reserved for friends and family of the ranch, and consists of two volumes, each book with a linen-textured covering attractively appointed with the King Ranch brand. A similarly textured slipcase holds the volumes, embellished with a leather title plate on the spine. A rich addition and essential historical reference for any library, this item was graciously donated by James H. Clement, Jr., Chairman of the Board of King Ranch, Inc. in honor of his father's many years of service to the T.S.H.A. Courtesy of James H.
