If you love tole and tole painting, you must have a copy of Pat Oxenford’s definitive book, Tole Painting, published by Stackpole Books and part of the Heritage Crafts Today series.
Tole is French for sheet iron, which originally referred to the heavy-gauge iron trays and metalware items produced and decorated in France during the 18th Century.
Pat has been tole painting for more than three decades. She is a juried member of the National Society of Decorative Painters and a Brazer Guild member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration. She was selected as one of the top 200 craftsmen working in traditional forms by Early American Life magazine.
Whether you are a beginning or accomplished tole painter, or simply interested in traditional and antique toleware, Pat’s 168-page book is packed with helpful tips, tools, techniques and information.
It is lavishly illustrated with beautiful full color photographs of her work, classic examples of toleware. and step-by-step photos for guidance. Pat covers easy techniques for basic strokes to create designs on tin and includes helpful background on the tradition of the craft.
Tole Painting also includes information about tole supplies and resources; museums, historic sites and festivals; and a bibliography.
