This lively bronze figure, cast by the Mori firm, depicts an oni, standing on his left leg, and was made in the Japanese Meiji period (1868-1912). The Oni is located on the seashore strewn with crustaceans, mussels, snails and algae. The figure is wearing a loosely fitting robe with fluttering ribbons of the garment bearing his rotund belly. A sword is found on the left side and a pumpkin is attached opposite to the belt. The right leg is pulled up, the hands are outstretched and a mystical creature is clutching on the right hand of the oni. The latter has a fine elaborate face and a cap covers the head as well as the curls underneath. The signature ‘Mori Shou(?) Zou’ can be found on the base.

The bronze statue is in good condition with natural patina and slight age-related signs of wear. The figure is slightly loose and material loss at the hands is visible. The height measures 46 cm and the width is 30 cm.
