Tiger stripe maple percussion heavy barrel half-stock percussion rifle, .60 cal., 34” octagon barrel measuring 1” in diameter, beautiful brass patchbox with double set triggers (working at time of description),brass trigger guard and butt plate with pewter fore end cap; barrel marked “Lansingb___”; possible manufacture by J.M. Caswell of Lansingburgh (now Troy), located in the Hudson River Valley (former home ofMohican Tribe), Rensselaer County, New York. Casewell was the son of Thomas Caswell who made muskets for the NY State Militia; John M. Casewell carried on the business until 1836 according to Carey’s “American FirearmsMakers”. Barrel shows an uncleaned dark patina, good action, beautiful patina to wood stock with a number of pierced inlays of stars on the left side of the butt stock, hearts on the fore end that shows an oldslight crack along the right side of the fore end and a pierced plaque on the left side of the stock at the breech inscribed “E.
