A Tibetan ritual musical instrument known as a kangling. The object consists of a curved, tapering tube made of polished copper. The instrument is decorated with ornate white metal mounts featuring extensive repousse and chased work. The bell of the trumpet is shaped into a stylized dragon or makara head, characterized by open jaws, scales, prominent eyes, and scrolling foliate elements forming the mane. The central section features a bulbous knop decorated with scrolling floral motifs, bordered by bands of incised stylized Himalayan script, likely representing sacred mantras. A flared mouthpiece is attached to the narrow end. A multi-link chain for suspension is attached to loops on the mouthpiece and the main body.
