Through Wonderland & Yellowstone National Park
Included in this lot are two (2) Yellowstone National Park travel booklets: "Through Wonderland" & "Yellowstone Park Wyoming". "Through Wonderland" was published by the Northern Pacific Railway, 1910. In 1884, Northern Pacific began promoting the Northwest in general and Yellowstone Park in particular with a Wonderland theme. At first, the railroad made a direct connection to Alice in Wonderland. In 1885, it published a romance in which a young lady from Massachusetts finds her true love in Yellowstone. But also in 1885, it published a booklet, The Wonderland Route to the Pacific Coast, with 64 pages of text and woodcuts. All of these were anonymous, but they were written by John Hyde (1848-1929), who was presumably an employee of the NP advertising department. 1910, NP issued one last Through Wonderland book shown above. The lengthy essay in this book has no author, but unlike all previous editions it includes more than a dozen full-color lithographs.
"Yellowstone Park Wyoming" was published by the US Dept. of the Interior National Park Service, 1935, was a visitor's guide to the park for the season of June 20 to September 12, 1935. Photos, maps, diagrams, fold-out map pasted to inside of rear cover, inside of rear cover also has USA map with national parks depicted.
Both booklets are in good condition, very minimal foxing noted, covers show minimal wear consistent with age and normal handling, measurements are approximately 10"L x 7"W & 9.25"L x 6"W respectively
