1) National Defiance. 1907. # 330, Membership #3. Signed by secretary van Duzer. He was a member of the United States House of Representatives at this time. He used his position of power to push this stick. Stock was sold for a mine that did not exist. 2) Nevada Commonwealth M&M. 1906. Willow Creek in Washoe County. The company seemed to constantly push the truth: like their property was worth $7,000,000 (or $200,000,000 today). Two months after the company was incorporated it was being investigated for fraud. #120 for 400 shares to William A Dieffenbach on April 18, 1906. Signed by W. F. Miller secretary and (?) president. 3) National Defiance. 1910. # 1004 for 10,000 shares of "Promotion Stock". Issued to J.E. Kendall and signed by Kendall as vice-president. Printed by Nevada Press. Kendall leased the first Goldfield mining property and his strike created the rush to Goldfield. The National Defiance Mine had the interest of local newspapers throughout 1910. No wonder someone would want to invest in the rather worthless mine. After all, sometimes hype is better than production. (Includes notes on the companies and people.)
