ALS, one page, 6 x 8, no date [circa 1970]. Larry writes to a collector. In part: “It’s always nice to hear from loyal fans. I can guess from your letter that you don’t know I had a stroke, and I am partially paralyzed and in a wheelchair. But the Doctors say I am recuperating nicely and am on the mend…I have given out over 600 pictures, so it becomes a chore for me to give more than one to a person, as I pay for the pictures and postage, and with Hospital expenses what they are, you can understand my dilema [sic] after 3 years. People think this is a free institute, but after contributing 1-1/2 percent of my salary for 33 yrs. I pay $750.00 a month. Please don’t misunderstand, I’m not complaining, I’m trying to explain my situation. I hope to hear from you again.”; and a 5 x 3.5 matte-finish photo of Moe, Larry, and Shemp, signed and inscribed in blue ink, “To Bill, from your pal, Larry.” In very good condition, with areas of soiling, staining along the right side affecting a few words of text, and a strip of adhesive at the top of the page; the photo shows scattered surface wear. Fine suffered a debilitating stroke that paralyzed the left side of his body in 1970. He moved to the Motion Picture House, an industry retirement community, a short time later.
