Three Stooges Curly Joe's Joe Besser/Joe DeRita Photos & Notes
Three Stooges Curly Joe's Joe Besser/Joe DeRita Photos & Notes After the most popular and beloved of the Three Stooges, Curly Joe Howard died, Moe Howard wanted to keep the trio going, and utilized several other replacements. The best, of course was the original "Third Stooge", his older brother, Shemp Howard, who had left the original team to pursue his own acting career, and came back for several years after Curly's death. But after his own untimely passing, several other "Curly Joe" lookalikes took over. The first was a well-known comedian named Joe Besser, and then later, for the remainder of the Stooges' career, was comedian Joe DeRita (who actually had been asked to join many years before but had refused, believing no one could replace Curly Joe Howard). This is a collection of items from the "new Curly's". The first is an original Studio B&W Photo Lobby Card from "The Three Stooges Go Around The World In A Daze" (1963), signed by Joe "Curly-Joe" De Rita, Moe Howard and Larry Fine; a rare glossy PR photo of the Three Stooges with Joe Besser, signed by Joe Besser, Also included is a personal hand-written note to a fan (and original collector of these items) from Joe Besser on his personal stationary. (Signed "Around The Word" is 8"x10", and the Joe Besser autograph photo is 3.5"x5").
