Three ALsS from Augustus G. Morrison of the 50th Massachusetts Infantry and 4th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. Written in pencil and datelined ''Batten rogue Aprel 23 1863,'' while Morrison was with the 50th Massachusetts, letter reads in part: ''…Dear mother we have got Payed off and I have sent 50 dollars to you by adams express…we are All well and we have not heard from you for over a month now I shold like to here from you Once in a while I have rote 5 or 6 letters that I have not Got any answers from…I suppose that you here that Abe agoin to keep us over our time…'' In August 1863, Morrison was transferred to the 4th Massachusetts Heavy Artillery. Ink letter datelined ''Fort Williams Va Mar 20 64,'' reads in part: ''…Dear brother I received that bundle that you sent…the boys are all well I gess I will finish this letter now I am well I will send you a picture…give my love to Lu Hoyt we have gay times out here now…Good by yours trulyA G Morrison…'' Ink letter datelined ''Fort Ward Va Jan 22 65,'' reads in part: ''…Dear mother…all the boys are well we have to drill five ours a day the mud is a foot deep hear we have to a ware whit gloves and scales on our dress perade give my love to all the folks rite soon…I shall be at home again so I can enlist again…'' Augustus G. Morrison, an 18 year-old Shoemaker from Haverhill, Massachusetts, mustered into service on 19 September 1862; his date of discharge is unknown. Letters total 5.25pp. Scattered soiling and wrinkling. Excellent condition.
