earliest is Crested Butte, CO, May 10, 1886 on letterhead of Office of the Crested Butte and Aspen Stage and Express Co. and lists C.C. Pollard and F.L. Chapin as proprietors. To R. Mais & Co., cover letter to accompany $80 check. Second is from Fort Madison, IA, Oct. 2, 1886, on letterhead of Gunnison and Grand River Stage and Express Company, and only lists C.C. Pollard as manager. In the letter Pollard is requesting a loan of $500. He seems to be moving from Colorado to Iowa to be closer to his family, and has separated from his business partner. The stagecoach on the later letters is different from the earlier one. The third letter is on the same letterhead, Oct. 19, acknowledging the letter from Mais granting his loan request.
