Three Black Americana Cartes de Visite.
Three "Black Americana" Cartes de Visite. The first of these three images is of Frederick Douglass, the great Black American reformer who was instrumental in creating the Negro-American regiments who fought diligently throughout the Civil War. The CDV is in very fine condition; clean, crisp corners and little wear; no imprint on verso. A classic image of Douglass on titled board with his name written above his portrait not to be found often in this kind of condition.

The second image is of a beautiful young child, with thick ringlets and a stern expression. She is identified on the CDV as "Fannie Virginia Casseopia Lawrence - A redeemed slave child, 5 years of age. Redeemed in Virginia, by Catharine S. Lawrence; Baptized in Brooklyn, at Plymouth Church, by Henry Ward Beecher, May, 1863." Bears the Kellogg Brothers imprint on the verso. In very fine condition; light soiling on emulsion; pencil notations on verso; double lined gilt border; square corners.

The third image is of a young black infant, with the following text below: "Young Africa Or the Bone of Contention". This was published by Anthony / Brady and it bears their imprint on the verso. A mysterious image, likely an Anti-Slavery message, but the meaning has since been lost to us. In very fine condition; green smear visible on the verso; small blemish near the mouth of the infant; double lined gilt border; square corners; light overall soiling on emulsion. A wonderful and diverse trio.

Shipping: Small Flat (view shipping information)
