all from J. W. Hugus & Co., Post Traders. First from 27 Oct. 1876 requesting a 30 inch, 40 cal. barrel. Second is postcard dated 18 Jan 1877 requesting 3 main lever springs. Third from 27 Sept. 1878 with list, including a military rifle, a bullet mold and seater, shells, and more. Mr. Hugus then specifies that the customer wants "Borchardt's patent," probably the 1878 Sharps-Borchardt breechloading rifle, which only seems to have been produced for a few years. Fort Steele was established in 1868 to protect the Union Pacific Railroad and Overland Stage Line from Indians.
