Pulitzer Prize–winning American novelist and dramatist (1897–1975) whose works include such classics as The Bridge of San Luis Rey and Our Town. ALS signed “Thornton,” one page both sides, 6.25 x 7, personal letterhead, January 2, 1964. Letter written to Margaret after an evening spent together. In part, “Just a word to say thank you for the lovely time last night-ice, sleet, and snow outside. And to say here what ? was a true point of saying all evening (but was continually deferred by talk of anoxia-my dictionary gives anoxemia-and Leslie’s great discoveries, and so on. That is: My delight in the Metropolitan; Venice calendar. It is beautifully assembled and sets one’s head reeling. I keep returning to it over and over. I assume that you saw the exhibition in New York that it gleans from.” A couple slight brushes to text, intersecting mailing folds, and a few creases, otherwise fine condition.
