Pulitzer Prize–winning American novelist and dramatist (1897–1975) whose works include such classics as The Bridge of San Luis Rey and Our Town. ALS, one page both sides, 6.25 x 7, personal letterhead, October 29, 1968. Letter to Anthony Integlia. In full: “I just visited Peru 15 years after writing The Bridge of San Luis Rey. One of my sources was Merimee’s play, the others were vast Tomes whose names I have almost forgotten…Cronicas…Nueva Espana or Naraciones. During the intervening years someone called my attention to Ricardo Palma’s charming chapters on the Presidente. When I reached Lima in 1940 I was taken to the home of Palma’s daughter (or grand daughter)—delightful, cultivated maiden ladies. So Ricardo Palma could not be said to have been an influence on that book. But it is possible that his gracious style and his tactfully balanced use of the exotic have been an influence on me since then.” In fine condition. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope addressed in Wilder’s hand. RRAuction COA.
