A Thoreau Merc token is relatively hard to find
Thoreau is the gateway from I-40 to the northwest areas of the reservation that include Crownpoint, Borrego Springs, Bisti, and WhiteHorse. Except for Crownpoint, the area is less populated than is the main reservation area northwest of Gallup. Some areas fall under the domain of the Checkerboard, which is land traditionally inhabited by Navajos but not part of the geographical part of the reservation. The Checkerboard includes non-Navajos but is subject to the jurisdiction of the Navajo Tribe.
