Thompson Flintlock Hawkens 45 Cal. Octagon Rifle
Thompson/Center, Rochester, New Hampshire .45 Caliber Flintlock Hawken style half-stock octagon rifle, serial number K 9135. These long discontinued muzzle loading rifles feature walnut stocks with authentic tear-drop Hawken style cheek pieces, engraved and color case hardened locks with 28” octagon barrels. Furniture including the patch box, trigger guard, butt plate and forend tip are of solid brass. These fine rifles also have adjustable double set triggers and an adjustable rear sight. Probably made in the 1980s before Thompson/Center discontinued manufacture of traditional half stok muzzle loading rifles, these Hawken-style rifles were considered some of the best made and most accurate. They feature a rifling twist that will accommodate either a round ball for target or small game shooting or a “Maxie” bullet that when backed by a hefty charge of black powder is the equal of the large buffalo cartridges of the 1870s! Great American quality, this example has seen light use and handling only. The bore has been examined and it is in excellent condition. This blackpowder Rifle qualifies as black powder / antique, NO FFL.
