Signed book: Look Homeward Angel. First edition. NY: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1931. Hardcover, 5.25 x 7.75, 626 pages. Signed and inscribed on the first free end page, “To Win Tilson from a fellow townsman, Tom Wolfe, July 10, 1934.” Autographic condition: scattered toning and soiling, not detracting from the bold signature and inscription, otherwise fine. Book condition: VG-/None. Navy cloth-covered boards; edges worn, with tears in cloth at corners and spine-ends; gilt titles have completely disappeared; insect damage along spine; moderately shaken; textblock yellowed, with some light foxing (mostly at first/last few pages); previous owner’s bookplate to front pastedown. Tilson and Wolfe were both from Asheville, North Carolina, fictionalized in the novel as Altamont, Catawba.
