Stonewall Jackson autograph letter signed, ''T.J. Jackson / Lt Genl'', dated 14 March 1863 from headquarters, 2nd Corps, Army of Northern Virginia. Letter is addressed to Brigadier General Robert H. Chilton, Assistant Adjutant & Inspector General. Jackson orders ''...two of Anderson's Brigades moved up to the U.S. ford...to prevent the enemy from crossing the Rappahannock''. Just a few weeks after writing this letter, he was shot trying to prevent the enemy from escaping through U.S. Ford on the Rappahannock. Reads: ''Please have two of Anderson's Brigades moved up to the U.S. ford as soon as the roads will permit. And have such disposition made of them as will be best calculated to prevent the enemy from crossing the Rappahannock. I hope to move my Hd. Qrs near you on next Monday.'' Penned across top, most likely by Chilton: ''Answd Ordered See letter book 15 Mar''. Document on one page measures 4.5'' x 7.75'' with plastic tape to verso at upper right edge and horizontal folds, else near fine.
